Storm Summoner

A battle between two sorcerers, one of light and one of darkness.
Using one brush to render a number of different effects, from rain to fabric to lightning to glowing magic, really forces you to consider the materials you're painting, helping shape a final piece that reads believably.
Process Work

Instead of starting from line (straight sketching), I chose to start from value (painting with darks and lights) for this piece. Getting out of my comfort zone by using my materials differently forces me to look at things from a new perspective and create solutions for new obstacles.
