The Apprentice (Gèna)

Process Work

Above: Silhouette exploration for the character's overall build.

Right: Rough sketches to rotate the character around. Keeping proportions the same for everything - character, costume, props - is key for an effective turnaround.

She is beauty, she is grace, she has a magical staff, so get out of her face.
Turnaround sheets are a great way to focus on the construction of your character as well as their design! They ensure consistency and believability as a handmade reference sheet for future pieces that include the character.

Why include the legs? The bottom half of the character is covered by her skirt, what's the point? Taking the time to construct the full body helps inform how the rest costume falls on the character, how the character's weight is held, and informs us about her build so that we can reference her clearly for different poses in the future.
