Process Work
Right: Narrowing down a color palette from my references at Château La Coste was difficult due to the bright array of colors there! I opted for the cooler blues and greens in the end.
I gathered inspiration for this trio of pieces while plein-air sketching around Southern France. My visits to these three distinct locations provided a range of color palettes and architecture that informed the creation of these fantastical environments. To keep a magical world feeling grounded and believable, it's important to start with the real one.
Right: The columns and stone of the Abbaye were beautiful texture and design references!

Left: Initial sketches for each environment. I took elements from each real location and altered or added on to them, putting a magical touch into each one. For example, the mysterious griffin statues of the Forest were inspired by bronze fox statues around the Château, and the fountain in the Square is a fanciful version of those around Aix-en-Provence.
